Welcome to the Honasan House

Ever wonder how your favourite home-making, home-schooling, financially free content creator got started? Well, you have found a mom and family with some humble beginnings, not quite near any of these titles (and not necessarily that I aspire to be all these things).

My name is Miranda, the creator behind the Honasan House. With my husband, Joel, we have two rambunctious daughters, Naomi and Alana, with another baby girl expected at the end of March 2025. For our household, faith is central to all happenings of life; it is our source of joy, strength, direction, and purpose.

Joel works in tech sales for a European company (aka he works from home, which is great for us but we also urgently need to get him a handle with a lock for the office door - one or two barge-ins from the toddler is cute, but we’re well past that count, now). We’re a family that loves being with community, friends, and family. We are increasing our overall active lifestyle (in exercise and outdoor adventures). While I consider myself quite methodical, systems-oriented, and planning-obsessed - I also enjoy exercising my creativity. I love making things: knitting, sewing, cooking up a delicious meal, writing and story-telling.

Truthfully, I’m a homebody. In the traditional academic sense, I love to learn, having completed a Master of Design in Strategic Foresight and Innovation and with future aspirations to do my ECE (Early Childhood Education) and a PhD in who-knows-what. And beyond institutional education, I consider myself a lifelong learner: I always have one fiction and one non-fiction book going simultaneously and I love doing research.

Without going in too much detail, you can head to the About page to learn about how we found ourselves homeschooling, which we never thought could be feasible. So, welcome to our place: the Honasan House. Kick off your shoes (we’re Canadian, if you haven’t already guessed from some of my spelling), and feel at home. What you can expect while you’re here is:

  • Our journey towards homeschooling: researching child development, exploring curricula, engaging activities, discovering nature, and learning to manage it all with grace, sanity, and joy

  • How we’re trying to making it work on a budget (and sudden single income): our journey to debt-free, budgeting tips, alternative income exploration

  • What we’re changing up to make our 1,200 sqft home family centric: creating inviting zones for children, balancing kid-, adult-, and family-spaces

  • Our stories, anecdotes, and parables: sharing the happenings in the Honasan House - learn, laugh, and cry with us!

  • Parenting and homeschooling-related media reviews: from books, to content creator platforms; from podcasts to peer reviewed journals - I’m reading/ listening to/ watching it all so you don’t have to (even though you should)

  • How to leverage the power of GenAI: look, at-home education, home upkeep, and feeding four humans is full-time work. Here, I’ll explore helpful prompts and how to use GenAI as a starting point for deeper investigation, systems planning, and inspiration to save you some time.

  • Templates and guides (coming soon): for all the things above… and then some

Whether you resonate with one, some, or all of this, my ultimate goal for you (reader) is that I use this platform to share some knowledge and learnings while extending some helpful resources. And for our family, our hope is to spend these precious few years with our kids early on and to give them a childhood that is play-based, surrounded by nature, and filled with family.

Together, we are raising littles and making home.
