Hi there, I’m Miranda.

I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. But scholarships and professional development tugged me down a corporate journey, both in private and public sector. I spent ten years working in these organizations to deepen their innovation skills and practices, while also earning a Master of Design in Strategic Foresight and Innovation. It had been an enriching and character-building decade.

And, I’ve always had a desire to be a mother. During this same decade, I married my husband, Joel. We bought our first home (and moved quite a bit thereafter) and we had our first two children. It is in the context of building our home that enabled everything else in our lives to stretch, grow, and flourish. Our family is our little garden, which we have found immensely rewarding to nurture and develop.

So, we began looking ahead. What is the vision for our family as we step into the future? What might the next ten years look like? What do we want to establish, build, and develop? One of the puzzle pieces was clear: we want to spend extra time with our daughters and invest in them in a new way. We made plans to pilot a homeschooling year over my next maternity leave (in Canada we have 12-18 months off, partially paid) with the intention for me to go back to work while saving up and setting up systems to make full-time homeschooling a reality. But, we can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps (Proverbs 16:9 NLT). A couple months later, I was laid off from work and we were thrust into a season we initially thought we’d just test out.

With the slightly unexpected and working within our means, we are embracing this next season of life. For me, motherhood is coming to the forefront in a completely new way and this is the journey I’m here to share.

My family and I live in an outer suburb of Toronto in a less than 1,200 sqft, 25 year old townhouse that has a “backyard” patio with an open fence to the public sidewalk. You get the picture. It’s not a homestead at the foot of rolling hills. But it’s home and we are so grateful for it. Where we live, the cost of living is high and dual income is considered a necessity. Our public education system is also well-funded and highly regarded: private schools and homeschooling are not the norm. However, if there is one thing Joel and I have determined to foster in our household, it’s to not view external factors as stacked against us, but instead, that we have access to tools, circumstances, and resources which we are responsible for leveraging: it is the way we steward which determines the life we’re intended to lead.

So, who is the Honasan House?

It’s me and my husband, partnering together to raise littles, make home, serve our community, develop our careers, and live life of purpose with faith, integrity, and character. The Honasan House blog and other media platforms (Instagram and YouTube) are created from my perspective, parent to parent. You can expect resources on beginner homeschooling, homemaking systems and rhythms, parenting parables, stories, and anecdotes; mistakes made and fun had.

Glad you’re here.
